Conditions In The Mount Athabasca Area

Boundary Peak, Mt Athabasca, Jasper National Park

Climbing Conditions

We enjoyed nice weather yesterday (July 20), up the Athabasca North Glacier and over Boundary Peak. Travel on the snow was boot top above about 2500m, with some deeper steps, making for less than ideal travel conditions. We didn’t see anyone else until we were descending from Boundary Peak, where there were several scrambling parties hiking up.

Of note, there has been a recent size 2.5 avalanche off the Silverhorn (see photo) , that ran across the lower section of the ramp route. With the heat turning on, watch for avalanche danger and rockfall on Mt Athabasca on pretty much all of the routes.
