Climbing Conditions

As the calls keep coming in regarding climbing conditions on Mt Sir Donald, it seems best to post a picture of it. The classic NW ridge is plastered with snow and the approach talus to the Sir Donald - Uto Col is even holding snow several days after the last storm. For alpine rock, Mt Tupper seems to have the highest likelihood of coming back into shape, but even the W ridge has 15-20cm of snow on ledges. Mt Rogers and Youngs Peak would be snow ascents, but it would be advisable to carry avalanche gear (beacon, probe, and shovel) and pay attention to snow instabilities.

The bridges on the Sir Donald approach trail have been removed for the upcoming winter season. If you decide to go up into the basin, be prepared to ford the creek.
