Climbing Conditions

We just returned from 5 days of general mountaineering in the Columbia Icefields area with Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. Conditions during the week were generally cool with light precipitation bringing up to 5cm above 3000 m and trace new snow below 2500 m. Snow line is now around 2500m on the glaciers. Above snowline on the glaciers snowpack is thin and variable and weak crevasse bridges necessitated ample probing for safe travel. Boot penetration on the glaciers was anywhere from ankle to knee deep. Generally good climbing conditions on many routes in the area.
