Cirque Peak Area Conditions

Ski Conditions

I ski toured today on a Backcountry Access sponsored ski guide training day, with a group of aspiring apprentice ski guides.

We had moderate west winds, as forecast, for most of the day in the Jimmy Simpson Creek area (the creek drainage between Observation Sub-Peak and Cirque Peak) and on the north glacier of Cirque Peak.

The snowpack measured 240cm on the glacier at 2700m. Just one recent thin windslab size one natural avalanche was noted on the north facing slopes of the north bowl of Cirque Peak.

We had great ski quality on the protected north glacier on Cirque Peak. The col at the top of Jimmy Simpson Creek was quite wind affected. The treeline and below treeline skiing was excellent.
