Ski Conditions

A friend and I went for a quick tour up the Armchair Basin on Cayoosh Mountain turning around at 2100m at the toe of the glacier.

Being a first day on the Duffey expectations were low and we were pleasantly surprised to see that coverage was very manageable. Travel in the forested sections was very reasonable up and down. Conditions at the treeline elevation were boot top powder with supportive snow underneath. More wind affect and shallower ski penetration up higher. Still exposed ice on the glacier and up higher, wind has scoured and exposed rocks more-so than lower down.

No avalanches observed. Conditions up high in the basin were cold with down-flowing winds, though minimal snow redistribution. No signs of instability were noted on the slopes but prevalent surface (or near-surface) facetting and surface hoar plagues the snowpack and will be of concern with future snowfalls loading this interface.
