Rockies - Mount Patterson

Ski Conditions

Hello
The CMSG Ski Guide exam had a great two days on the north end of the Wapta culminating with a ascent of mount Patterson.

Travel is fast with good overnight freezes which held strong until late afternoon for us on both days. Access to Bow hut is still mostly done on skis but ski crampons are handy if you want to stay out of the creek. The Peyto hut approach is reportedly quite tedious with lots of walking on rocks (see photo).

Mount Patterson was in good condition. Delta creek was still mostly skiing on the way down with several short sections of bare ground or un-skiable debris (see photo). We were lucky to find supportive snow in the valley bottom and could link snow patches most of the way to the highway with limited bush-whacking. This will not be the case for much longer! True spring conditions at the moment.
