Skied the Bonnington with 3 clients from March 11 to 14th, with Summit Mountain Guides

Weather over the course of the trip was variable with temperatures ranging from -15 to +3. We had 25-30cm of snowfall starting March 11 and ending in the morning of the 13th. This snow came in with moderate to strong SE winds which created wind slabs in immediate lee alpine like features on Northerly aspects. We found this storm snow and windslab formation to be bonding well overall, with no notable natural avalanche activity, and no reactivity to skier traffic.

On March 13th the freezing level rose to 1700m, creating moist snow and small size 1 loose wet avalanches on solar aspects. Suncrusts and poor ski quality were noted on South aspects. Polar aspects remained cold with excellent ski quality down to 1500m.

March 14th, we observed several size 1 loose wet avalanches on solar aspects and one size 1.5 skier accidental (by another party) on a NE aspect, above Barrett lake.

The snowpack is generally well settled ranging from 150-250cm with the March 1st surface hoar 40-50cm down, not producing any results.
