February 19-21st, 2024
We woke up to 5-10cm of new snow on the morning of the 21st which settled quickly with mild temperatures producing sticky travel conditions.
Feb 3rd crust is faceting out and is not supportive to skis on steeper rolls above 2000m. Generally speaking, we found the crust supportive on low angle terrain with the exception of the slog out of Johnston creek where we continuously punch through to the mid-pack or into the faceted base as the snow depth decreased.
Average snow depth of 150cm over Bonnet and Trifid Glacier. They were both currently straightforward to navigate.
We brought ski crampons, ice axe and boot crampons and could foresee using these with more firm conditions accessing the cols/passes.
Ski quality was excellent between Badger Pass and Johnston Creek.
