Ski Conditions

We had three Thompson Rivers University Adventure Studies Ski Tour 3 groups out today in the Wapta Icefield / Bow Hut area. We ascended Little Crowfoot Mountain, Mt Olive and Mt Gordon.

There were a number of other parties in the area.

The weather was fantastic with clear sky and cool temps (-7 C at 3000m at 13:00) and a cool, light SW wind. The temperature was +1 C at 3:00pm at the Bow Lake parking lot.

Aside from some lower elevation south facing loose wet natural avalanches, we didn’t observe any new skier triggered or natural avalanche activity. Bow Canyon was holding up well as of 2:00pm today.

We found good snow quality on polar aspects above 2300m. The ski out below Bow Hut is in fast condition. There is sun crust forming on solar aspects. Ski crampons are recommended if you are climbing solar aspects. Snowpack depth was 150-200cm on the glacier above Bow Hut.
