We skied the Coat Tail Right off the Top Hat today.

The upper run skied well with no concerns. On a NE aspect at about 1750 m on the steep exit in scattered trees we triggered several size 1-1.5 avalanches, 25 cm deep on the January 24 surface hoar layer, which ran over a cliff below. It became quite involved getting out of this zone as it is quite steep and at one point requires a traverse through some bigger open terrain. I ended up skinning back up to ski cut some more small pockets, trying to trigger the bigger slope below. We didn't trigger the bigger slope, but debris from the smaller avalanches hitting the slope gave us just - juuust - enough confidence to traverse out and escape after some tense moments.

I would be quite concerned in any larger, steep, open glades between 1500-1800 m in the Yoho zone right now. EG some of the Mt Field lines.
