We climbed Silk Tassel which was in good shape despite being a bit wet near the top. The newly fixed up mixed variation to Bubble Wrap Blues proved to be a bit desperate due to sublimated and delaminating ice at the crux.
It was very windy all day and the 10-15cm of new snow was being transported extensively. Though there wasn’t enough snow at that elevation to produce large avalanches, by the end of the day there were new mini wind slabs forming in depressions. I’d be cautious of narrow ledges and small bowls on routes in that area for a while.
We also had a great view of the extensive and constant spindrift sluffing on mount Stephen that would have made routes like Twisted and Home Brew feel very alpine!
Given the current weather forecast, it will be a while before I spend any time near Silk Tassel again as the avalanche hazard increases.
