Avalanche Conditions

MTN Guiding had groups in the Emerald Lake area over the last two days and spent two days before that checking conditions.

Avalanche obs - evidence of impressive older (at least a week or two old) widespread cycle to 3.5 that ran on the Dec 2 rain crust - 60 to 80 cm deep. We were able to do a fast fracture line profile today to confirm this. Otherwise no reactivity to skier traffic and there were some big steep features being "slope tested".

Snowpack obs - the inversion fog monster laid down surface hoar observed 10 to 20mm mostly between 1500 and 1800m elevation. Recent wind slabs have settled and bonded well, and there is not much snow left for transport.

Terrain use - lots of tracks in the main Emerald path, both sides of the too hat, and some funky lines in those areas.

Hope that helps!
