Athabasca Route Conditions

Icefields Conditions Update

Climbing Conditions

Jasper Visitor Safety was on the Athabasca Glacier on Friday Aug 19.

The Glacier is very dry with not much snow left. The snow that was present was mainly supportive even with no overnight freeze & 4am temps in the parking lot of 11 degrees.

The Bergschrund below the Silverhorn was impassible with no usable snow bridges. Access was possible via the ice climbers right of the nunatak.

Overall the Glacier is very dry and requires complex route finding to navigate safely.
