Ski Conditions

November 28 was spent traveling in the Asulkan Valley, students performed a snow profile at 1300 m (HS 150 cm) below the east slopes of Mt Abbott. The Nov 23 SH was down 40 cm under low density storm snow and reactive in compression tests (CTM-H (SC)) and rutschblock (RB 5). The Nov Cr was down 100 cm with small facets 1mm over the crust. During our travels at valley bottom and from our vantage of the slopes below the Dome we didn’t see any signs of avalanche activity.

November 29 we traveled around the Hospital Bowl area to 2000 m. At treeline and below, we found no wind effect in the recent storm snow and excellent skiing. Surface hoar to size 2 was observed developing at treeline, with larger crystals at lower elevations. We saw numerous groups skiing alpine terrain from Video, Grizzly, and Hermit areas; no new avalanches were observed.
