Area closure for elk calving season and access to Tunnel Mountain climbs
Tunnel Mountain, Banff National Park
Some areas on the west side of Tunnel Mountain will be closed until June 30, 2019 to reduce human/wildlife conflicts by providing secure habitat for female elk during calving season.
Climbing access to the Black Band and Gonda Roof areas is permitted as long as climbers comply with the closure by using the approach and descent outlined on the map. See the attached photos or go to the following link for more access details and information on what to do if you encounter an elk.
Thanks for your cooperation with this.
