I headed up to Cory Pass again today. The snow level started at around 2100 m and quickly increased to 40-45 cm deep at the Pass (2300 m) with the cross loaded gullies below Edith drifted in up to 60 cm deep. At the Pass I had a good view down towards Edith Pass where I saw evidence of several size 1-2 avalanches from some time in the past few days off the steep N facing slopes on Mt Edith, running to valley bottom.

We opted to turn around and go back down the south side. There was quite a bit more snow overall than I was hoping for, even more so on the north side. Lots of post holing. Unless you're up for a winter mountaineering challenge with the additional hazards it brings the Cory Pass trail will have to wait until next summer.

It's definitely winter up there, and time to be packing your avalanche gear.
