We spent the last 2 days up Connaught creek. We all agreed that the travel due to a supportive crust was good for this time of the season. At the parking lot there is a measly 20-30cms, with the crust down 10-15 cms. This allowed us to walk from parking lot to the alpine and ski cautiously back to the parking lot each day. In the alpine the HS ranges from 60-120 depending on wind distribution. The crust is everywhere and down anywhere from 0-40cms. This new snow is mainly Fist resistance ranging to 4F at ridge crests and mid slope drifts. No instabilities were observed and seemed to be bonding well to the crust. Ski quality is Just OK due to variable wind affect, large chunks of hard debris from recent warming and even more recent cooling.
Lots of tracks in 8812 and Balu pass.
It's obviously still early season and the typical hazards exist, ride defensively and finding the summer trail as high in elevation as possible is beneficial to a safe exit.
