Hi all,
I just spent the last few days in the Gimli Peak area of Valhalla Provincial Park. There is a recent was out at 6km on the access road, it is only passable with high clearance 4 X 4. Otherwise road conditions is as last year, we were able to drive to the parking lot.
The trail is in good shape with very little blow-down trees from the winter season. The first half is snow free with loads of water and mud on it. Lots of snow at treeline and above even on solar aspects.
The lingering snow in the alpine and unsettled Spring conditions are keeping the alpine rocks very wet. There is still lots of snow on the regular descent route on Gimli, an ice axe would be very useful.
Cheers,
David Lussier
