Spent April 23-26th on the Freshfields icefields, in the NW corner of Banff National park camping around 2600m.
Over the 4 days there was up to 30cm of storm snow that fell through convective flurries and one overnight storm on the 24th. Winds were generally light throughout the time we were in the area and we only saw very minimal slab development confined to immediate lee features along ridgelines. Solar aspects were getting moist throughout the day up to the summits but northern aspects stayed dry with good snow and 15-20cm ski pen's. Coverage on the glaciers was excellent with 3m+ snow in most areas. The only avalanche activity that we was saw was loose dry slides up to sz 1.5 and evidence of some cornice collapses prior to our arrival triggering slabs on NE aspects up to sz 3 on underlying slopes.
