With the significant recent storm snow overlying several weak layers and the warm temperatures today we stuck to supported polar aspects and reduced our overhead exposure to non-loaded slopes. We broke trail in 40-60 cm of storm snow observing slab failures on steep rolls. Skiing was very good in hot pow conditions turning upside down below 1600 metres in the afternoon.
Whilst at a transition looking across the valley we observed a party in one of the large avalanche paths near the Illecillewaet Practice Slopes. The skies had cleared and the sun was beating down on the upper slopes' starting zones. Only FIVE MINUTES after they skiied it, two successive size 2 natural slabs released covering their up and downtracks (two photos).
