Current trail and climbing condition photos around Lake Louise (1 of 2)
Banff National Park
Attached are photos of various trails and climbing objectives in the Lake Louise area.
Snow is present down to about 2000 m on shaded and north facing terrain, and many trails above this elevation remain snow covered.
Snow travel conditions vary from straightforward to very difficult depending on the time of day and steepness of the terrain. Isothermal snow is present at lower elevations and later in the day. Good footwear and cleats are recommended to deal with icy conditions on packed trails. An ice axe and crampons may be required for steeper slopes.
Avalanche hazard is still present in some treeline areas and in the alpine. For info on managing the spring and summer avalanche conditions visit: avalanche.ca
