Just back from a week of skiing based out of the Burnie Glacier Chalet. A cold weathery week with intense winds. Despite the winds, the ski quality improved significantly throughout the week with about 60cm of new snow at tree line. Windslabs formed on east and north aspects but the storm snow bonded surprisingly well to the rain crust from mid February.
Of note the coverage on the glaciers is variable with as little as 150cm on some parts of the Burnie Glacier. Due to this variability we often used ropes for uphill travel.
Despite the snowpack in this area being slightly below average for this time of year, there is ample coverage and good skiing is to be had at all elevations.
