We had Variable ski conditions at Mt. Niblock today.
Below 1800m, there was a breakable melt freeze crust with 5cm of fresh snow. The bowl has been heavily wind affected and HS varies from rock surface to 280cm.
We did a number of hand shear test at the wind affected snow. Half of them breaking and the other half resulting in resistant planar, but slab sizes weren’t consistent across the slope.
We chose to rope up near the glacier due to varying snow depth.
No avalanche activity observed.
