Decided to check up on the crux of the Hector creek approach today. As expected, it still needs more time before safe and efficient travel is the norm. Average HS between the highway and the crux is only 30cm with plenty of shrubbery and rocks still exposed (see pics). While returning to the road, I found a convenient road-like path through the forest on the skier's right of the main creek around or below 1900m. This would certainly be an acceptable alternative uptrack from the standard climber's right side of the creek and a slightly shorter, more direct route. One could likely find easy enough travel through the forest by staying on this side of the creek all the way up. To find this path, walk directly across the hwy from the turnout/parking and immediately start approaching to the left up the clear-cut bank to the forest and find the road-like gap in the trees. Happy trails!
