Today I was inspired to take a walk up the Wendy Thompson Drainage and up the ridgeline between Wendy and Cayoosh. Travel below 1500m was in good condition so long as you stayed on the main Road/Trail. 45-50cm at the road with 75-80cm at 1500m. Between 1500m - 1850m (treeline) You may want to consider staying at home and reading a book (maybe the Peaceful Warrior?) If you are keen to get out however, You can manage to tough your way through early season conditions which will get you into the Good skiing (although selective) above 1850m.
Knee deep unconsolidated powder from 2100m-1800m.
Avalanche conditions: A profile at 2050m North East aspect on a immediate lee feature had 155cm base with an average probing depth in the area of 130-160cm. Test results showed a sudden plainer down 23cm with low density snow above the layer (no slab properties). Where the wind has pressed the surface snow there is a 4f soft slab just below ridge tops. No test results on the Nov 5 crust layer which is now down 70cm. A layer of note was another crust layer (october?) down 120cm (30cm above ground) failing on Facets below the crust layer in the moderate range sudden plainer. This layer doesn't appear to exist below 1800m and likely only a concern on fern snow (glaciers) and or grassy or slabs slopes above 1800m.
I did not observe any avalanches activity in the area. Main concern was isolated pockets of wind slab above treeline on immediate lee features (NE-N aspects)
