Hi all,
Today we skied the north facing glacier on Little Crowfoot Peak in the Bow hut area. We skied supported alpine and treeline terrain to 38 degrees. We had scattered skies in AM evolving to mainly overcast in PM with cooler temperatures ranging from -12.0C to -6.0C. Winds were light to moderate out of the South and there was evidence of yesterdays wind transport at ridge top. Ski quality was consistently good to excellent despite recent winds. Traveling conditions were also excellent and ski penetration was in the 10-15cm range. We measured over 230cm of settled snow on the glacier, the snowpack here felt firm, supportive and evenly distributed. We observed numerous passive whumpfs in shallow snowpack areas (moraines) between treeline and the toe of the glacier. We saw no other signs of instability and no new avalanches. Our main concerns were steeper shallow snowpack areas and recent wind slabs; the later concern was absent in this area today.
Great conditions and a quiet quality tour!
Cheers,
David Lussier
