Guided a group up to the Coal Mine Scar, on the side of Mt. Allen. Arrived early this morning to cold conditions from the prior night, with temperatures close to -20C. With clear sunny skies and no wind the weather helped to ensure a warmer day. Daytime temperatures improved up to -5C and stable throughout. Trail conditions proved interesting, as snow was up to 6 inches in sheltered areas and higher elevations. Avalanche season is beginning so start to think about slopes around you.
Microspikes and trail crampons are recommended to have in your pack now - snow and ice are likely here to stay in Kananaskis Country. Down jackets, warm tea, and toques and gloves are essential items from here on out. Looking forward to dusting off the skis and ice climbing gear for the season ahead!
