Guided a 5 day backpacking trip on Banff’s Sawback Trail this past week. These are the highlights on trail conditions.
-Mosquitos levels are very high right now, higher then normal for the Banff backcountry.
-Trail conditions are mostly good to very good except pulsatilla Pass to Wildflower Creek has lots of dead fall and could use some trail work. Also a mudslide has led to some impromptu reroutes and trail breading.
-A section of willow meadow between Wildflower Creek and Baker Lake is completely flooded. Expect wet feet.
-met some porcupines at Baker lake with a serious case of the munchies. Keep packs and poles inside vestibules or they may become a midnight snack for some prickly rodents.
