Climbing Conditions

On July 15 we were on the Fay Icefield and climbed the NW Ridge of Mt Little (route 57 in the Jones guide). We found ok snow conditions but there was some post holing on the glacier and some deep steps higher on the route.

Another party were on the W Ridge of Fay.

The upper parts of the scramble routes on Temple and Eiffel are still snowy and may need crampons if there is a freeze. The approach slopes to Pinnacle Pk are melted out. E Ridge of Temple is dry to the Big Step but there is still a significant amount of snow on the Black Tower bypass ledges. See photos.

If you started climbing in the past 20 years it probably feels snowy for this time of year. If you started climbing in the 80s and early 90s it probably feels like the olden days!
