ACMG Mountain Conditions Summary for the Coast Mountains. June 13th 2019.

Great conditions currently on the coast for mountaineering and alpine rock climbing.

The snowpack in the alpine is generally firm with good step kicking and boot skiing most places, rarely sinking in more than ankle deep. It is still early season and although there is a bit less snow cover than this time last year, it is the perfect time of year to take advantage of generally well bridged crevasses and fast glacier travel. You can still expect to find significant snow patches above 1500m elevation depending on aspect, but good step kicking means they don’t present much problem (unless they freeze).

Perhaps the most significant things to watch out for currently are cornices collapsing, and lingering snow patches generating rockfall.

Alpine rock ridges are now mostly dry, with new routes being put up in the Tantalus Range, and the Tantalus traverse being completed by a party yesterday.
