Still Some Snow On The Descent
Mount Baldy West Ridge of West Peak, Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park
We climbed Mount Baldy today, via the west ridge of the west peak. The approach and climb was in great condition and generally snow free (see photo).
We descended to the West Peak / South Peak Col, and it was a bit sporty with snow and water on the rock slabs (see photo). We descended the west bowl on scree, firm snow and old avalanche debris.
There is evidence of recent moist avalanches, and still the potential for more avalanches with quite a bit of snow in the start zones in the bowl (see photo). Travelling with avalanche safety equipment seems warranted if you plan to descent the west bowl.
The ticks are out, we found several on us at the end of the day.
