A colleague and I Spent July 4th to 6th in the BC Ramparts on a research trip with a Parks Canada EM team.
We arrived after the stormy weather of the 2nd and 3rd, which appeared to have brought up to 30cm of new snow above 2700m. The warm temperatures of the 4th and 5th saw lots of snow melt, but the ledgy terrain on the south and west faces will need more time. Coverage on the upper Casemate and Bennington glaciers looked OK with good bridging. Loose avalanches and rockfall were abundant from the surrounding peaks during our stay. Valley bottom travel was difficult on the marshy hummocks and the mosquitos were something else.
