I guided some laps in the Bow Summit South area yesterday, Jan 15th. We found good skiing on up to 30 degree slopes below tree line, and on shallower slopes at tree line.
I had a settlement on the flats out of the parking lot, and a second one on our return in roughly the same area.
The attached picture is from Sunday, I suspect, as I was teaching an AST 1 field day in the area that day and saw some folks skiing into this area. Looks like a skier jumped off of a cliff in extreme terrain, triggered the Dec 15th layer and was fortunate enough to ski away from the avalanche. The slope is east facing and at about 2300 metres.
Take care,
Barry Blanchard
