Ski Conditions

We did a run on Bruins Glacier today from Bruins Pass.

Ski conditions:
Wind packed powder in the alpine skied pretty well. There was a nasty band of breakable melt freeze crust around treeline for a couple of hundred meters, then moist or wet spring style snow below to the parking lot. The ski out of Connaught Creek is not bad for this time of year, but it will be heinous if it freezes before it snows again. There’s only about 5cm of snow at the parking lot, so expect early season conditions.

Glacier:
120-180cm snow probed, but there was still some exposed ice in places and open crevasses.

Avalanche conditions:
We found 2mm surface hoar buried 38cm deep on the crux slope you have to traverse to Bruins Ridge around treeline. No new avalanches or other significant instabilities observed.
