Avalanche Conditions

Avalanche Conditions

Improving coverage and longer daylight allowed us to push further a field over the weekend. We generally found good travel conditions with 40 cm of well-settled storm snow. Reactive wind slabs we our main concern for the day. We didn't observe any recent natural avalanche activity, but it triggered a 75cm deep Size 1 from below while ascending through a treeline gully early in the day. For the rest of the day, we were mindful of localized wind-loading patterns such as cross-loaded slopes and in the lee of morainal features, especially where terrain traps were a factor.
