Ski Conditions

Great ski conditions at Black Prince today. 40 cm of low density storm snow at the parking lot and 50-60 cm at treeline made for deep trail breaking and excellent ski quality. Unfortunately this is sitting on a very weak facetted base below treeline and hardslabs at treeline. We saw lots of wrinkling and cracking and small, steep rolls failing, although with no wind and cold temperatures, the slab is still very soft and not propagating. Needless to say we stuck to supported treed terrain less than 35 degrees and avoided any overhead hazard . Anything steeper or unsupported would sluff easily with enough volume to knock a skiier over. Snowing 2 cm per hour with -15 to -20 temperatures all day.

Driving the Spray Road this morning was pretty epic!

Cheers
