Went for ski tour up the St Mary's Valley (Dewar Creek). We saw widespread old avalanche activity up to size 3 on most aspects from the intense storm from last week. Mostly out of large ridge top start zone areas which look like have reloaded from more recent wind events. We skied on south and southwest aspects. Which have a thin suncrust buried about 10cm on the some steeper slopes. Dug a test profile on a south southwest aspect at 2400m snow depth was 175cm deep. We had some moderate resistant planar compression results down 40cm. and nothing significant below. Looking to get some information on the December layers. Could identify the layers but did not find and Preserved SH more than likely because we we on southerly aspect. Would still be concerned on more northerly aspects with the buried December Surface whore layers. Were had a couple of settlements in shallow wind effected areas of the Alpine.
