Climbing Conditions

ARG Candidate Vincent Lauzon, Ariane and myself did a recreational traverse of the Roger-Swiss-Hermit peaks on July 31th.

Under warm and clear weather we left Hermit Meadow high bivy and found supportive snow where it remains on route to the Roger West Ridge.

The route is dry. Upper Roger-Swiss snow pack is generally well settle with very occasional post-holing and harder crust in the shade.

Snow at cols is generally well settle and offered good boot top steps. Snow gullies still represent avalanche hazard to be mitigated.

The Tupper and Swiss glaciers maintained fast travel until end of day with no evident crevasses and well settle snow coverage. Ice is starting to show on the lower tongues. Crampons where not essential, but added safety in the steper/denser sections.

A great enchainement with reasonably solid rock.
