Climbing Conditions

Hi MCR Subscribers

I climbed Mt Fay today from Moraine Lake via the Perren Ledges.

There is minimal flow of water at the start of the ledges. If you are creative, you can get a litre in a minute or less.

There was a slight refreeze on the glacier this am due to clear skies. Surface water was still flowing at 0600.

The bergschrund is still supportive. The snow ends shortly after. We climbed a 70m pitch of alpine ice above the snow to gain the ridge proper. This is changing fast.

The ridge is dry and pleasant.

The summit glacier is drying. Crevasses are obvious. Small but not benign. Just enough snow coverage to not need crampons but this will also change quickly.
