Ski Conditions

Le français suit...

I ski tour the past couple of days around Mount Ligori in Charlevoix.

HS was between 110cm to 80cm at 750 m. At 150 meters, HS was around 70 cm.

This snow pack is unconsolidated. Ski pen was 45cm and foot pen was 80cm. Because of strong wind yesterday, I observed widespread windslab up to 5cm thick in open area below treeline.

Hardness : After this 2cm to 5 cm 1 finger wind slab, the top 60 cm of the snow pack is fist and 4 fingers, follow by a layer of 1 finger minus to the ground.

The concern around Mount Ligori is not the avalanche condition since there are not a lot of terrain that allow this phenomenon. But the biggest concern, is the fact that it will be easy to hit all kind of obstacles in the forest (rock, logs, branches), since your ski will dig way down into the snow pack.

It is early season here but the start is better than last year, thus lots of people will go ski touring around Mount Ligori today.

40-60 4 doigts
60-100cm 1 doigt –

Voilà, bon ski.
