Ski Conditions

Went for a quick jaunt in the local hills above Squamish today. Drove with 4WD high clearance to 600m, with snow starting at 400m. Maybe could have driven to 750m with chains, but for this access it was a toss up, as skinning on the logging road took just as long as chaining up and driving further. Snow gradual deepens, with 1100m being a big threshold for a deeper snowpack, I wouldn't attempt any travel off of roads or summer trails below that elevation. High point was just below 1600, with about 170cms of snow on the ground. Still extremely unconsolidated snow pack, which kept me out of the steeps/trees. Sunny, mellow open glades provided supported and enjoyable turns. Evidence of numerous sluffs and size 1s in steep, unsupported northerly glades, but no other signs of avalanche activity. My biggest concern today was unconsolidated snowpack and tree/boulder wells.
