A group of 6 and I flew into the pass separating Van Horlick Creek and Twin Two Creek for Feb 22nd- 25th.
There is about 2.5m of snow at TL. Winds over the past week had moved lots of snow and made skiing above TL challenging. But by 24th there was enough new snow to soften everything. Yesterday we woke to 20cm of new and quite good skiing.
Cold (-25 at night) temps made it nice to have a cook tent with a wood stove. The warmest day time temp was about -10.
The N winds that blew until the 23rd had overloaded a few slopes and created natural wind slab avalanches, then SW winds on the 23rd/25th did the same only in steep unsupported terrain. We didn't see any evidence of deep releases. The Feb 13 crust goes up to 2200m and the 5cm of snow on top of this was 2mm lightly faceted crystals producing easy to moderate results.
We put our camp by the 1900m lake just E of the pass. It was a really scenic location but was perhaps a bit distant from the majority of ski lines on the N aspects. Fantastic ski terrain with some fun peaks.
